April 26, 2000. Reno, Nevada. 25-year old Star Palumbo is found wandering around through a restricted area at Reno-Tahoe International Airport and tells security that she is looking for her sister, even though she does not have one. An officer drives Star to the nearby Hilton Hotel and Casino and drops her off, but she soon vanishes without trace and her abandoned car is discovered at the airport one day later. Since Star had been displaying erratic and paranoid behaviour prior to her disappearance, investigators explore the possibility that she was on drugs or suffered some sort of mental breakdown, but even though there are a number of unconfirmed rumours about what might have happened to Star, no trace of her is ever found.
October 28, 1991. San Francisco, California. After last being seen at a hospital, 29-year old Selena Edon inexplicably disappears and breaks off all contact with her loved ones. Two years earlier, Selena had suffered a serious brain injury in a motorcycle accident which caused memory issues and made it difficult for her to take care of herself. She eventually tells her family and friends that she is leaving town with an unidentified woman, but no one can confirm if this woman even exists and Selena is never heard from again.
On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we cover a pair of missing persons cases that were featured on “Unsolved Mysteries” and involve young women who disappeared without leaving any evidence behind.
If you have any information about the disappearance of Star Palumbo, please contact the Reno Police Department at (775) 334-2155. If you have any information about the disappearance of Selena Edon, please contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 553-0123.

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 394 - Amanda Antoni
Wednesday Aug 28, 2024
Wednesday Aug 28, 2024
October 26, 2015. Calgary, Alberta. Lee Antoni, the husband of 31-year old Amanda Antoni, returns home, from a weekend trip and discovers Amanda’s body lying in a pool of blood inside their basement. Two days earlier, a phone call between Amanda and Lee had abruptly cut off and since her broken cell phone is found on the floor, police initially believe that Amanda was attacked and her death was a homicide. However, after failing to turn up any strong suspects or forensic evidence pointing towards an outside party, investigators start to consider the possibility that Amanda actually suffered an accidental fatal fall down the stairs. Was Amanda Antoni the victim of foul play or was her death nothing more than a tragic accident? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a Canadian case that was recently featured on the “Unsolved Mysteries” reboot.
If you have any information about this case, please contact the Calgary Police Service at (403) 266-1234 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 393 - Sarah Boehm and Kathryn Menendez
Wednesday Aug 21, 2024
Wednesday Aug 21, 2024
July 14, 1994. Rochester, Pennsylvania. After leaving her home, 14-year old Sarah Boehm goes missing and a cryptic letter is soon found inside her bedroom. Even though Sarah supposedly wrote about being in a relationship with an abusive man and expressed a desire to run away, the authorities question the legitimacy of the letter and wonder if it may have been intended to mislead the investigation. Over three months later, a murdered Jane Doe is found 50 miles away in the Berlin Lake Wildlife Area in Ohio and in 2003, the victim is positively identified as Sarah. It turns out that the body of another murdered girl, 17-year old Kathryn Menendez, was found in the same wildlife area one month after Sarah originally went missing. Even though Kathryn lived only a few miles away and there is no apparent connection between the two victims, investigators explore the possibility that they were both killed by the same perpetrator. This week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold” covers the murders of two teenage girls which have gone unsolved for 30 years and we will also briefly discuss the murder of 16-year old Anna Marie Callahan, which took place in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania in October 1995. Special thanks to listener Maria Milchman for narrating the opening of this episode.
If you have information about the murder of Sarah Boehm, please contact the Beaver County District Attorney’s Office at (724) 773-8550. If you have any information about the murder of Kathryn Menendez, please contact the Portage County Sheriff’s Office at (330) 296-8626. You can also call the FBI tip line for both those cases at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324). If you have any information on the murder of Anna Marie Callahan, please contact the Troop B of the Pennsylvania State Police at (724) 929-6262 or the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-262-3080.

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 391 - William Mathews & Scott Morris
Wednesday Aug 07, 2024
Wednesday Aug 07, 2024
January 7, 1990. Daviess County, Kentucky. The nude body of a white male who appears to be in his thirties is found in a remote wooded area. The victim has been shot and severely beaten and his hands and feet were removed, but since he cannot be identified, he becomes known as the “Daviess County John Doe”. Seventeen years later, investigators announce that the victim has been identified as Scott Morris, a 14-year old boy who went missing from Indianapolis, Indiana in 1978, but this turns out to be mistake, as DNA testing later shows that the decedent has no genetic connection to Scott’s family. Finally, in April 2024, the Daviess County John Doe is correctly identified as William Mathews, a former Louisville resident who was 37 years old at the time of his death, but his murder remains unsolved. On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore two separate unsolved cold cases which wound up being linked together in a very unlikely fashion.

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 389 - Janet Kuchinsky & Andre Lalonde
Wednesday Jul 24, 2024
Wednesday Jul 24, 2024
July 10, 1999. Pierrefonds, Quebec. 42-year old Janet Kuchinsky leaves her residence in order to go out for a walk, but never returns. The following morning, Janet’s body is found in a wooded area next to a bicycle path located one kilometre from her home and she has been bludgeoned to death by a blunt instrument. Months later, a serial killer named William Patrick Fyfe is charged with the murders of a number of other women which also happened to occur in the West Island region of Montreal during this time period, but no evidence links him to Janet’s death and the crime is never solved.
April 29, 1996. Senneville, Quebec. 51-year old Andre Lalonde, a veteran constable with the Montreal Urban Community Police, pulls over a Ford Tempo with a noisy muffler for a seemingly routine traffic stop before he is fatally shot by the driver. It turns out the vehicle was stolen and it is later found abandoned in an industrial section of Montreal after having been set on fire. There is speculation that in the weeks prior to Lalonde’s murder, the Tempo may have been used during a series of bank robberies, but while investigators believe they have a potential suspect in the shooting, they lack the evidence to file charges.
On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we travel back to our home country of Canada to explore a pair of unsolved murders which took place in the West Island of Montreal. Special thanks to listener Talia Guilbault-Miscovich for narrating the opening of this episode.

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 388 - Arnold Archambeau & Ruby Brugieur
Tuesday Jul 16, 2024
Tuesday Jul 16, 2024
December 12, 1992. Charles Mix County, South Dakota. After an all-night partying spree, 20-year old Arnold Archambeau, Arnold’s 18-year old spouse, Ruby Bruguier, and Ruby’s 17-year old cousin, Tracy Dion, get into a car accident and roll over into a frozen ditch. By the time help arrives at the scene, Tracy is still trapped inside the car, but Arnold and Ruby have disappeared. Three months later, Arnold and Ruby’s bodies are found submerged in water in the ditch over 75 feet away from the accident scene and their cause of death is determined to be exposure. However, the investigation turns up some odd discrepancies to suggest that Arnold and Ruby may have still been alive during the three-month window they were missing before their bodies were brought back to the ditch and placed there by an unknown party. Did the couple actually die of exposure on the same morning of the accident or did something else happen? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a bizarre unexplained death case which was featured on “Unsolved Mysteries”.

The Trail Went Cold - Episode 387 - The Father's Day Bank Massacre
Wednesday Jul 10, 2024
Wednesday Jul 10, 2024
June 16, 1991. Denver, Colorado. An armed gunman commits a robbery from the underground vault at the United Bank Tower on Father’s Day and makes off with $197,000 in cash. While the six employees from the vault are allowed to live, the assailant fatally shoots four guards: 41-year old Phillip Mankoff, 21-year old Todd Wilson, 33-year old William McCullom Jr. and 21-year old Scott McCarthy. Two-and-a-half weeks later, a 54-year old retired police officer named James King, who once worked as a guard at United Bank, is arrested and charged with the robbery and the murders. However, since the stolen money is never recovered and no physical evidence links King to the crime, the case against him is very circumstantial and King is acquitted of all charges at trial. Was James King actually responsible for this crime or did law enforcement allow the real perpetrator to get away with it? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a controversial unsolved bank robbery/quadruple homicide which has become known as “The Father’s Day Bank Massacre”.
